Frequently Asked Questions:

What will I need to bring for my appointment?

We suggest wearing comfortable clothes to your ultrasound session: A loose shirt that can be easily lifted over your growing belly, and a pair of pants or a skirt that can be scooted down below your hips. To maintain your privacy we do not recommend wearing a dress to your session. You may also want to bring your camera or video recorder to capture any special moments of you and your loved ones during your session.

Do I need to bring my Obstetrician’s contact information?

Yes, you must be under the care of an Obstetrician at the time of your appointment, and we will need their practice name as well as their contact number.

Can my size affect the outcome of my ultrasound?

Possibly. Sonograms use sound waves to send a signal into the body. The returning signal produces the ultrasound image. Thicker tissues result in a weaker return signal which may cause poor image quality, but this is not always the case. Drinking lots of water several days before your appointment to increase your amniotic fluid will allow us to capture the best possible images.

How can I best prepare for my appointment?

If you are scheduled for our Sweet Beats package and are no more than 12 weeks into your pregnancy we suggest that you arrive with a full bladder. Drinking 32 ounces of water 1 hour before your session should help us adequately visualize your baby during your ultrasound. If you are in the second or third trimester of your pregnancy it is not necessary to come to your appointment with a full bladder, but being adequately hydrated will increase the chances of getting better pictures during your scan. You should start drinking water several days before your scheduled sonogram appointment, this will help your amniotic fluid be clear which makes it easier to see your baby. If your doctor says it is okay, drinking a fruit juice prior to your session may make your baby more active during the appointment. Before each appointment, make sure you have contacted everyone you wish to attend your session and inform them of the date, time, and location of your appointment. We want to make sure everyone important to you is able to share in this experience.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, you do need to schedule your appointment prior to your arrival. Your Sweet Pea in 4D also offers portable ultrasound appointments, including Gender Reveal Parties and Baby Showers, and we may be out of the studio with another client. Same day appointments are available, but you must call the studio to schedule.

How long is my rescan applicable?

If you are offered a free rescan at the time of your initial appointment, you have four weeks from the date of your first appointment to come back for your rescan. We do not offer refunds for the initial visit if you can not make it for your rescan appointment within the allotted time.

Do I have to prepay for my appointment?

We do require card information at the time of your booking to reserve your appointment time. A hold for $25 will be placed on your card, and it will only be charged if you do not show up for your appointment, are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, or do not cancel/reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Please be aware that all payments are due at the time of arrival and before the start of your ultrasound session. Please also be aware that if criteria are met for the $25 no show fee to be assessed, it will be in addition to any other services you elect to purchase.

What happens if I am late or if I miss my appointment?

We understand that things come up, and from time to time it may not be possible for a customer to keep their scheduled appointment. However, a courtesy call is expected. If you are not able to make your appointment we would love to offer that time to another customer. If you do not show up for your appointment, and you do not call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or change your appointment you will be charged a $25 fee, and you will be required to prepay for your next appointment prior to rescheduling. This fee is also applicable if you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your appointment.  If a customer fails to show up for her free rescan appointment she forfeits her right to a free rescan, and will not be extended the courtesy of rescheduling.

What about Twins?

Yes…of course we do twins (and even triplets)! To accommodate the added difficulty in visualizing pregnancies with multiple gestations,  an additional fee of $25 will be assessed per baby. Note: There will be no free rescan offered for individuals who choose the Sweet Peek package (15 minutes of viewing time) for imaging twins in which the facial features of only one baby is visible, rescans are valid if the appointment was scheduled for gender determination and either one or both genders can not be determined.

Are ultrasounds safe for my baby and I?

Several studies have indicated that no harmful effects have been associated with the use of ultrasound imagery during pregnancy. Please review the following link to a recent article published by the journal of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology that reviews the data related to this subject. What is 4D ultrasound?

4D ultrasound is viewing 3D images of your baby in motion.

When should I schedule my 3D/4D ultrasound?

We are able to see some things better than others depending on where you are in your pregnancy. Between 15-26 weeks your baby’s entire body is better visualized. At this size it should be easy to watch him stretch his legs, or see her in her best “yoga pose.” After 26 weeks baby starts developing more fat, and his facial features become more defined. Because your baby is growing so fast, and her living space is getting smaller and smaller, as you reach the end of your pregnancy it will become more difficult to obtain good pictures. We recommend scheduling your sonogram session no later than 34 weeks, but some babies remain in a good position up until the very end of the pregnancy. So if your willing to give it a try then so are we!

Does Your Sweet Pea in 4D accept checks?

No we do not accept personal checks as a form of payment, but all major credit and debit cards as well as cash are accepted.

Can my family and friends attend my ultrasound appointment?

Of course! We want you to share this special time with everyone that is important to you. We have a comfortable sectional sofa to accommodate your guests, and we can also pull chairs from the waiting room if necessary. Your ultrasound will be projected on a large flat screen television for  easy viewing from anywhere in the room. If you are expecting to come with a large group let us know so we can prepare to meet your viewing needs.

What are Heartbeat Buddies?

During your ultrasound we can record your baby’s heartbeat and place it inside one of our adorable stuffed animals for you to take home. This way you and your family can listen to your baby’s heart beat at any time.
